now that the high end apple laptops have ddr and an entry level pro machine under $1800, and now that there is a consumer laptop under $1000,

apple inc is ready dollar for dollar and feature for feature to take on the pc laptop industry on the consumer and pro ends

at most, the pc laptops have a slight edge on benchmark speed

but in the realm of consumer level desktops, the pc world is light years ahead...for under $500, there are tons of decent offerings for pc desktops and these machines are mostly over 1.5 ghz in speed

even the emachine at $399, with all its problems, is still a seller and not as bad as the early emachines of the late 1990s which were plaqued with fan problems
