Hi guys and gals,

I’m in the market for an external 4k monitor to sit up on the wall behind my iMac Pro in my recording studio / post production studio.

The monitor would be used for two main purposes...

1) for extra real estate during large recording sessions.

2) for editing/viewing our film productions, and scoring music to them.

So with the above in mind I am looking for 4k options, ideally 32” or larger. I’m open to the idea of ultra wide, but it’s not a necessity.

The biggest thing, really, is we want something with great response time (for scoring music to film) and excellent colour accuracy, for video editing.

I would appreciate it if you guys could throw some suggestions in this thread as the world of monitors seems very overpopulated and it’s difficult to know what’s good or bad.

Also, I’d be interested in people’s thoughts on just using a 4k TV. My main concern on that front is colour accuracy and response time, though.

Thanks in advance!

Samsung Q80 and Q90 have good color accuracy (after calibration) and low input lag.

"Good" is subjective of course, but you can see the results in the review links and decide if that is suitable for your needs.

Be sure to set the input to "PC mode" when connected to your PC or Mac. Otherwise the chroma will be gimped.

Thanks for the reply. However, by colour accurate I’m looking for a monitor that is in the 97%+ range for Adobe colours. I don’t believe they measure TV colour accuracy like that so I’m not sure how I could compare.

Are you planning to run the display in "pixel-for-pixel" mode (i.e., full resolution)?

Or, are you going to use it in HiDPI mode (i.e., "looks like" 1920x1080 or 2550x1440)?

If you're going to run it in full 4k, I would think that 32" would be "too small" to view text, etc. at a distance.
A quality 50" 4k tv might be more up to that job.

It would be full 4k ideally as we'll be sat 2m away from it.

I use a Dell 32" 4k display without issues in Yosemite, Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave and Catalina.
