I was about to give the XR the pass for it's large bezels and weight until I turned on the netflix app and saw the screen not able to come anywhere close to going full screen (left and right bars of ~.75 inches each). This can't be real, can it? I tried on YouTube. How is this possible that so much of the real estate is blacked out?

Tell me I'm doing something wrong?

I must take the cake for the boob of the day - all you have to do is double tap the screen and it fills in much nicer. Geesh!

However, the zoom also causes cropping to occur. Be careful. You’ll lose screen content because zoom doesn’t stop at filling the screen. It pushes other content off of the screen thus cropping it from view.

Pillar bars are nessecity without cropping the image of a 16:9 video. If a video is of a wider format say ... 21:9 or the iPhones native 19.5:9 there will be some loss of image or some form of pillar bar or letterboxing.
