Large Calendar on Dashboard

I am new to the Mac OS, so let me apologize in advance.

I want to know if there is away, be it through tampering or downloading a mod/extension/program/whatever to get a full sized calendar to display where the Dashboard presently resides.

I have found little use for the dashboard as it currently stands but I would love to be able to swipe to the left on my trackpad and have a full-screen calendar right there, much the same way an actual paper desktop calendar often sits underneath many an office computer.

The simplest way I can think of to do this is to make a widget with Dashcode, part of Apple's developer tools, that meets your description and have it be the only active widget - assuming such a thing doesn't already exist.
