I have a new 128 Gb thumb drive, which comes formatted FAT. In my Mac-only household, it's more useful to me formatted as Mac Journaled. But it will not mount! Even Disk Utility can't see it on my MB Air (late 2010). I thought I might have a bad one, but I had to go to the Apple Store anyway for an iPhone issue, so I brought it along. Turns out it doesn't mount on the latest Air either, but it does on a MB Pro .

So is this a Pro-only drive, or can I make it useful to me? Is there some utility that will format it so that it's visible?

Suggestion:
Take it back to the Apple Store.
Mount it on a MacBook Pro.
RE-initialize it to HFS+ with journaling enabled.

Try it again on YOUR Mac.
Any difference?

My iPhone issues sent me to the Apple Store 3 times in 3 days. I need a break before going back. But it's a good experiment to try.
