Hey everyone,

What's the largest capacity hard drive I can fit in my 15" late 2008 Unibody MBP? My 320 gb drive isn't cutting it anymore.

Am I limited to 640 gb 9.5mm drives?

I appreciate specific drive names/modes. If anyone has 1st-hand experience, that would be great!

Also, what's the easiest way to migrate? Install the drive physically and restore from a Time Machine back-up point?

Thanks,

Anthony

All unibody Macs can take 12.5mm HDs so 1TB is currently the maximum. 1TB WD Scorpio Blue is pretty popular in here and I guess it's the only 1TB 2.5" drive that is widely available

You can use 2.5" HDDs with a maximum height of 12.5mm.

www.macsales.com offers many of those, up to 1TB.

Oh that's great news, I just remembered hearing about some problems with the 1TB WD Scorpio Blue drives barely fitting, causing excessive noise/bulging/transmitting vibrations. That was awhile back, though.

Happy to hear it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks guys!

And for Applecare visits, I figure I'll just keep the 320 gb to swap out so there's no chance of conflict.
