Most threads regarding this and other similar reflux issues are well over 10 years old, so it might be best to start a new one.

Hopefully this will be a safe haven for those with weird, silent reflux symptoms.

I'm in the beginning of my journey; it started (in my mind at least) after I got COVID-19 in December. Ever since then I felt like I had something in my throat; a nasal drip, perhaps? I was constantly clearing my throat.

ENT stuck a scope in my nose and noticed a very inflamed larynx. Prescribed me a PPI. I don't notice much a difference.

However, the biggest change has been caffeine; I'm having to cut it out completely. This really does suck because I miss coffee AND tea. Hell, I even miss Diet Coke.

The real solution is to lose weight and to modify my diet. I'm meeting with a nutritionist next month to figure out a dietary habit that could work for me.

Not the funnest thing I've had to deal with, but it can be manageable. We'll see how things go.
 
I too have given up caffeine some time ago and found excellent quality decaffeinated coffee and tea.
Here in the UK you can even find Diet Coke without caffeine (golden colour can or bottle).

From time to time I too have the symptoms you have described, but no one ever connected it with the possibility of reflux.
(I've suffered in the past with normal reflux)
I might need to discuss this with my doctor if the symptoms worsen again.

PharmD here, sorry to hear you’re dealing with this.

I don’t know the time frame here, but because of the pharmacology/pharmacokinetics of PPI’s, they can take up to 4 days to reach the full benefit. There’s also half a dozen+ different PPI’s on the US market that could be tested out.

H2 Blockers are another option and work within hours. Ranitidine has been pulled from the market due to contamination in production, leaving famotidine as the only other option. I really do not recommend cimetidine to anyone.

H2 Blockers and PPI’s can be taken in conjunction under your providers direction. Ideally not taking meds and committing to lifestyle changes is the best option if you can find a solution that works. Definitely diet changes and weight loss can help. Keeping a diary of what you eat and what symptoms you develop and when can be a good way to determining how your diet affects your symptoms. I’m sure your doctor also recommended propping your head up while sleeping, not eating before laying down, etc.

PPI’s really are not an ideal long term treatment solution. H2’s are safer long term but acid suppression in general can have its consequences when it comes to using other medications and other health issues. So again, lifestyle changes in the long run are the best solution. Just remember it’s hard to make dramatic changes overnight, so be patient with yourself.

I’ve had the same but for the last 16 months or so.

It seemed to come on after I had covid too, although I was under quite a bit of stress so this could have triggered it as well.

My symptoms are a constant tight throat, almost feels like something is always lodged in there. I also seem to produce too much mucus. I don’t notice much reflux but do regurgitate if I’ve eaten more than I should.

I’ve had a camera up the nose and down my throat as well, they said things don’t look too bad.
Just inflamed.

Doctors have put me on Omeprozle (not sure on spelling!). It hasn’t really made much difference. I’ve only really done that for a month, 40 dose, for a couple of goes. Don’t really want to do any longer as I’m not keen on the side effects, and doesn’t make sense if I’m seeing no improvement.

I’ve tried being strict with my diet, but have only managed a few weeks at a time. Cutting out caffeine, low fats, no alcohol, eating small portions and generally eating clean foods is hard!

I generally eat well but probably eat too much, although I exercise a lot so need the calories. I’m not overweight.

Weirdly I tend to feel worse (or notice it more) when I’m trying to be good with my nutrition. Not sure if this is because it’s a ‘gets worse before gets better’ thing and that I haven’t given it enough time.

Anyway thought I’d share as it sounds similar to yourself.

It’s all just a bit depressing now, can live with it but it’s just constantly irritating.
