Las Vegas 3G reception in hotels and wifi

Hi,

Who here has used the iPhone 3G in Las Vegas? How is the reception for calls and email and internet using 3G and how much free wifi is around? How is reception in the big Hotels? I understand you can't be obvious with the iPhone in the casinos but how is the reception in rooms, buffets, and etc around Vegas on the strip? How prevelent is wifi? I know that hotels charge up the wazoo for daily internet access. I'll be at the Riviera.

One of the reasons I got the iPhone was so I could travel without the laptop and still get email and web access. Thank you in advance.
 
I was in Vegas a couple months ago, and while I was picking up open wifi signals on the strip, you needed to be a guest in that hotel to log in. The only true free wifi I found was in a Starbucks on the strip.

OK, thanks how was the 3G around Vegas? I really don't need wifi that bad if I have decent 3G.
 
Was in Vegas last week and the 3G coverage is spotty at best and painfully slow compared to where I live.
 
3G a no go in Vegas

I stayed at the Luxor for 6 days this week and never got a 3G reception. Just got back today! When I was on the strip closer to the M&M factory and TI it was very spotty...just got used to using edge.
 
I had excellent 3G reception last week in Vegas. Walking on the Strip in shops and restaurants on the strip and in many hotel and casinos. The only bad places were in casinos that were basically built underground. In the Wynn and MGM Grand, Cesear's, Circus Circus, the Riviera, and the Trump and the Palazzo. In the Trump and Riviera I had 3G throughout.

At the Imperial Palace's casino which is underground I lost all service. But in the rooms I had 3G.

I was there recently. Decent 3G, except in the bowels of some casinos. Free wifi was hard to come by, unless you're a registered guest. Even then, hotel wifi didn't really extend down to the first floor.
 
I was in vegas a year with at&t iphone 4. reception was horrible. could not make a single call :( and when i did, it dropped.
 
When I was there in May, I didn't get great service in the Tropicana, but I got good service when I was on the strip.
 
This thread is old , anyway I live in Sin City and 3G is fine outside the casinos lol , on all 3 major carriers , but you still get decent 3G on the strip once inside is different but then again if your in casinos you don't need 3G there is a lot cool things to do :D (besides gambling , don't do it ain't worth it )
 
Went to Vegas last month for the first time with my 4S, speeds were incredible. At the Las Vegas Hilton in the middle of the casino I was getting 5-6Mbps down and 1.5-2 up. With my 4 the year prior I was lucky to get 2.5 down and .5 up.
 
I have to disagree with everyone. 3G in Vegas is great.

I say that, as I'm local and live in Vegas. Anywhere around Las Vegas Blvd. will cost you, though, as the hotels will nickel/dime you for WiFi there. Most of the hotels off that street (read: Henderson, Rancho Drive, I-215 beltway) will net you free WiFi.

Anywhere else around town is great as well. The only place you will lose 3G signal is up past the turnoff for Lee and Kyle Canyon, going towards Mt. Charleston, and Indian Springs. Every other way gets you 3G all the way to St. George to the North, Laughlin to the south, Kingman to the southeast, and the entire I-15 corridor north and south.

I'm getting roughly 6 down and 2-3 up, and I'm on the northwest side of town (US-95 and Cheyenne).

You know, it MAY help to list which carrier you were using in Vegas... :rolleyes:

I was there last year and had excellent 3G coverage on Verizon both on the strip and in the hotel/casinos.

You know this topic was made back in 2009 when Verizon and sprint were just dreaming about the iPhone and when all out with android
 
I occassionally will get a dead spot in the center of a casino in Vegas. I'm on Verizon

I've stayed in the Palms, Bally's, the Monte Carlo, Hilton Grand Vacations and the Cosmopolitan in Vegas, and didn't have issues with 3G in my room

Free wifi is hard to come by though, unless you're a guest at the hotel
 
It's not that bad, I was able to have a decent signal to use my iPhone hotspot.
