Damn. You can't edit titles.

I suppose that's probably a good idea. Otherwise you will have people posting "Put your name here if you love Macs" then later changing it to "Put your name here if you have ever inappropriately kissed your grandma".

Could get ugly.

Funniest thing I've read all day.

I like the idea of those sonic gun thingies used in the Minority Report movie. They're awesome.

*Some delightful mod fixed my title. Thanks.

Guns run out of amo, but what if your laser gun runs out of batteries. That would kinda suck. What if someone sets of an EMP?

Light Sabers always seemed inefficient.

Does anyone have an EMP weapon? The only way I'm aware of that you can generate an EMP pulse is with a nuclear weapon, and if if folks start popping those off you've got bigger worries then frying some electronics.

[If I'm wrong about that though, hopefully someone will let me know...]

You're not exactly wrong, nor right either. In fact, you can generate an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) yourself, using very primitive tools. It just wouldn't be very powerful. The more powerful the weapon, the larger potential EMP effect.

Okay, let's assume I do NOT want to drag a big microwave and miles of extension cord out onto the battlefield. :)

Would it be a fair statement to say that the only effective, currently-deployable EMP weapon is a X-yield nuclear weapon?

Actually, an EMP bomb could be built - I read about how it might be done from a Popular Mechanics (or Science) aticle a few years ago.

Basically, one creates a tesla-coil like coil around a rod of high explosive. The coile is energized, effectively creating a big capacitor, then the rod is detonated from one end to the other at a certain speed.

Bingo. EMP the size of a small nuke with only the bang of a car bomb.

(I left out key details due to sneaky secret stuff and poor memory)

The problem with EMP's are they aren't focusable (yet). That, and the generator still destroys itself.

Great News .....

... just what we need - more things to kill people with. This is terrible news and all anyone can say is "Cool! I want one." I despair.

Adventure. Heh. Excitement. hmmph. A Jedi craves not these things, but yet, a Clone army someone must face, if not Jedi then who? hmmph. yes?

Clearly, not Jedi material are you, young Padawan.

What happened to that wave gun that made the enemy's bladders fail and make them start pissing involuntarily?

I always thought that was cooler. ;)

Me too now I'm having a flashback to the "Brown Note" episode of South Park.....

With lasers and cloning I wonder when we'll have to start using the force
