I am having no luck selling my X at 175

I think the appeal with buying direct from Motorola is getting the phone new and having it customized with Moto Maker.
While the Moto X is my all time favorite phone, I probably wouldn't buy a used one either at this point in time. I think you'd be lucky to get $125-$150 at this point. If it was new and in a sealed new box, then I could see it going over $200. Just the way it goes with Android phones. Most don't keep their value if used.

Oh wow....this almost makes me rethink buying that Nexus 5 from you Lloyd....

Almost.

What do you think? Objectively a 16GB Nexus 5 for $275 or 16 GB Moto X for $299?

I'm quite partial to the pure Android of the Nexus 5 - really liked it when I had it. Never tried a Moto X but did have a Moto G and thought it was nice.

Objectively. I'd get the Moto X. Even though I hate to tell you that. :( Just being honest.

It is the most iPhone like in its simplicity and UI (does so many tasks for you!) Even though the screen isn't 1080p, it is still pretty good.

Pro's for the Nexus 5 are screen, camera, CPU/GPU and slightly larger size.

Hmm.....

Camera-wise, is the Moto X better? A lot better?

Worse. And it isn't because of the camera API. The sensors on the Nexus are slightly better. The Moto X can through blue tint on to lower light pics for some reason. Only happens occasionally though, not every time. Noise in low light pics can be pretty bad. Camera is the weakest point of the Moto X, but I don't take a lot of pics, so isn't a big deal for me. (And my wife always has the Lumia 1020 with her, so she usually takes all the pics anyway.)

But I'll always view the Moto X as the best phone. Hard for me to say anything negative about it. It really is the only Android phone I would put in the same league as an iPhone (software and UI perspective that is.)

Ahh...if the camera is worse than the Nexus, then I'll probably stick with the Nexus. I think Android L looks fantastic and seems to address the things UI-wise and software-wise that I dislike about Android.

What specifically about the Moto X makes it so great and in the same league as the iPhone?

Once you set up the Moto X to your personal tastes, it simply takes over and there is no more need to make adjustments. For example, when I get in the car and start driving, the phone automatically goes into Drive mode and automatically sets up all incoming calls and texts to come in via my cars BT speakers. I can choose to ignore calls or answer and choose to have texts read aloud based on the name of the person texting me.

At night, the phone automatically goes into sleep mode at specified times and wakes at specified times, so I never have to worry about turning the volume down or up, or if a stupid chime from a text will wake me.

It's things like this that are built into the UI, so no need to download and try to get 3rd party apps to function properly or worry about them messing up after a new update comes out for Android.

I do believe that many of the Moto X features like saying 'Okay Google' are either coming or have come to the Nexus devices at some point, since Google owns all those patents.

Here you go. Pics in order from Lumia 1020, Nexus 5 and Moto X. All were set to automatic, with no adjustments. This is with the shades drawn in my bathroom for low light simulation. Lumia 1020 was in 4:3 ratio though and the flash came on. The flash did not come on with either the Nexus or Moto X. Colors are most realistic with the 1020 (as well as it being really clear. Hardly any noise). You can see how bad the Moto X is on the last pic. It tends to just wash averything out. The Nexus 5 is a good pic and actually looks pretty good to me, even if it tends to darken the colors a bit. Might be because it didn't turn the flash on?
But like I said, this is how each camera took the picture without me attempting to make adjustment or turn flash on manually. All automatic by the phone.

Thanks for this Lloyd - I think I'll stick with your Nexus 5....though it was fun to create a Moto X on the website....

If only I could get both

I have a problem....I think I've admitted that already!

Or....curveball - I really want to pick up a Moto360 when they're released. Any reason why a Moto X would pair better than a Nexus 5 with the 360?

LOL. Join the club. I have way to many phones, but enjoy using them too much. Just can't wait to get my hands on the iPhone 6 and iOS8 come Sept or Oct (whenever I can actually get one after the hoards have died down.) :p

I'll be sending you the vid of the Nexus 5 in a few.

Ya - with all this Android stuff I'm talking about, I also have my eye on BOTH iPhone 6 sizes....might require selling off one more of my phones than I'd like, but we'll see.

I also can't wait for the new iPads and iWatch. I'm hoping the new iPad rMini will be my last iPad for a while.....just want TouchID and 128GB.

My wife and family think I'm insane.

I'm looking at the 4.7" iPhone 6. After owning the Lumia 1520, anything close to 6" is just to big and becomes a bit of a hassle. Especially with car mounts (or even finding a good place to mount a large phone can be a pain.) I'm just glad Apple is making the perfect sized phone for me. Couldn't be happier with their decision. :D

P.S. Sent you a PM. Need your email addy.

Agreed - I don't think the 5.5" would work for me.....but I'm too curious. I've had every iPhone model so far...if there's a way I can pick one up just because I'll try.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'll play with the iPhablet in the store just to see how it came out and how light and thin Apple was able to make it, but I already know the size is to big. Will be great for some people, just not me. And since I buy my phones unsubsidized, I have a feeling the 5.5" is gonna cost as much or more than a MacBook Air!

I can tell you the camera is dreadful with the Moto X.

Other than that, though, the Moto X, I think, trumps the Nexus 5 on almost every other front.

Great deal on the Moto X. If anyone is even remotely interested, I'd say go for it. It's a great device. One that has nearly made me a full convert from iOS to Android.

Id buy one used if i wanted one. I wouldnt pay $299 for a new Moto X now. Thing is, i really dont want one....for me anyways. My Wifes phone needs upgrading but i can give her my N5 if i upgrade to the N6.

You know what, I'm actually going to take advantage of this sale. Yeah, I know the X+1 Is right around the corner, but I do don't buy new phones when their announced any way, and I'm not going to buy the phone until I know all the accessory makers I buy from have stuff for the X+1. And, if it is true the X+1 will have a micro SD card slot, I need that 128GB card to come down in price. Plus, I'll just give this phone to my mother. I was going to get her a Moto G for Christmas, but the X will do. Also, I want to sell my iPhone 5 before we go into full blown iphone frenzy.

I dont know where that 128GB Micro card is in your acceptable range but it will take a while for it to come down. There are cheap ones on eBay but they arent name brands and id avoid those.

For me a 64GB would be well more than enough since i dont load my phone with movies.

I'm just going to hold out until Black Friday/Cyber Monday. If I can get one for under a $100, I'll be satisfied.

Might be do able. They are $125 there about on eBay now for a Sandisk. I dont know how much they are in places like Best Buy. Id guess more.
