for those not familiar, last.fm is an itunes complimenting app that logs the kind of music you like and makes suggestions, etc, and i was under the impression that it only did things when its application was open.

just then, i opened dashboard, and my istat pro widget showed me that my CPU was near maxing out at 98%. shocked as i was, i opened activity moniter to see that there were two last.fm processes happening (no app open), totalling at 94% CPU. i terminated the processes quickly.

has anyone else seen this? is this indicative of some sort of spyware or something dodgy? or do programs tend to execute processes when they are not visibly open?

cheers

What version of OS X?

What version of Last.fm?

Is it a consistent problem? Or just that once?

If you're using Leopard, you should be using 1.3.2.15, which is a beta, Leopard compatible version. If you have both, then that makes sense since it is beta, and therefore buggy. I had a problem with lastfmhelper taking up hundreds of MBs of ram.
