I don’t have any issues with the keyboard or the throttling which looks like it is mostly a non-issue. And I actually like the Touch Bar.

But it does seem like heat could be better improved and managed.

Is the 2019 model likely to see a more significant redesign. Is that when we are probably due for a change (that would prompt an event/introduction at WWDC)? Or could that be delayed until 2020.

I would like to upgrade but could wait until next year. I just don’t want to wait 2 years. If next years machine is going to be essentially the same as this year I would upgrade now.

Disclaimer: I do understand that the redesigns are not crazy overhauls and changes are not earth shattering with tons of innovation.

Apple seems to refresh the design after every 4yrs ... so on the 5th year new model redesign for MacBook Pros.

MacBook Pro Unibody: 2008 - 2012
MacBook Pro Retina: 2012 (early release) - 2015
MacBook TB - 2016 - ? (we've already had a refresh in 2017, and now 2018 with processor spec updates: QuadCore all around now). If we include the year of release as the starting year 2019 will be the final year and a new design will most likely debut, maybe nothing severely will change. Potentially the iPad's iOS will get Swift via Xcode and we could see Apple create a completely different system. Maybe like Microsoft Azure VM's Apple may host Xcode development via an RDP or web session and the real compute power and compiling occurs on server. The UI is just via the screen and computing system the end user chooses??

I mean registration of your Developer status is already online. Just my 3 thoughts.

Time is flying by so fast it feels like this recent MBP design is only out for like 1 year. It was released in late 2016 after all. So it's not even out for 2 years really.

Thus 2020 should be the year and earliest we see a redesign.

I am afraid that when Apple does updates the MBPro, they will try to make it thinner. With the newer processors that are even more efficient, we will see active cooling as something from the past. Less heat equals less power used so the battery can get even smaller.

Apple does redesigns every 4 years, so next major one is probably due in 2020. Then again, nobody knows. Next year, we will most likely get proper next-gen CPUs as well as new GPUs. Will they be better/faster than what we have now? Definitively. After all, the 2018 MBP is still based on 2-3 year old chips.

I have to believe they realized that they've reached (or exceeded) the means to make a laptop thinner, either because of the heat, or the inability to make a durable keyboard. I fully expect to see the same thickness next redesign. Additionally, I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see the next generation a couple of millimeters thicker.
