So for all you late 08 mbp buyers, I'm sure you've noticed the lack of a DVI insert.. is there anywhere else to purchase the adapters for these besides the Apple store?

They're about $30 at the Apple Store, and I find it ridiculous when the previous versions already have it installed.. I've looked elsewhere, but haven't been able to find any cheaper adapter than that. I'm wondering if it's an Apple-only produced product?

as far as mini-display port goes, Apple has a "monopoly" on adapters currently. Tough luck.

I'm guessing the adapters weren't even necessary until the release of the new MBPs, huh?

yep. Apple "created" mini-Displayport, while regular displayport seems to be the new standard. At the moment, Apple is the only manufacturer of mini-DP adapters, or even mini-DP itself.
