Late 08 MBP, red light from audio in entry ?

Hi,
when I was installing Vista in Bootcamp I notices a red light coming from the audio in entry. But since I've never seen it on again.

What is it ?

I think it's the optical out (Mini Toslink?). Maybe Vista turns it on by default?

Fiber Optic for Digital Audio. Both audio jacks duo purpose, they're regular mini plugs as well as TOSLink plugs (system specs/manual for reference )

ok thanks. I can't find that section in the "Everything Mac" manual of my MBP.
