late 08 vs mid 09 UMBP screen

Hello,
I was today in a Apple Store and took a look at the UMBPS abd I found the glossy screen colors of the current UMBPs much better that the one I have on my late 08 UMBP. Are the screens different ?

Also when I changed the luminosity of the screen, it was progressive and not step by step as on my current mpb.
