Hi folks,
First post here. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have!
I'm a proud owner of a black, Late 2006 model MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.0 (13"). About a year and a half ago I hopped on to crucial.com and ordered two sticks of 1GB RAM to replace the original 512's, and that worked fine.
Machine started getting pretty slow again over the past few months, and after doing some research online, I heard reports that I could, in fact, upgrade again to 4GB, even though the full 4GB might not be used:

I went ahead and bought the 4GB, also off of crucial.com, and installed it today.
Now, with 2 sticks of 2GB, the computer won't boot up. Having seen similar issues discussed in this forum, I did the recommended check of installing one new 2GB stick and one old 1GB stick. Now the machine boots up fine, recognizes that there is 3GB RAM, and seems lightning quick.
My questions are simply these: why won't the two 2GB work together and allow the machine to boot, and is there anything harmful in having an "unbalanced" RAM setup, as I do?
FYI - the RAM specs are as follows:
1GB - 200-PIN DDR2 SODIMM 128MX6 PC2-5300S
2GB - 200-PIN DDR2 SODIMM 256MX64 PC2-5300
Thanks again and Happy New Year to all
