I have tried to boot with refind using usb and not supported error comes up. I also tried refind booting from windows dvd and bootcamp dvd boot and both hang on grey windows logo. Mouse and keyboard just freeze on both. The dvd drive works fine and reads and writes in osx. Currently running lion 10.7.5 with all updates and firmware up to date. Can anyone help me out on why windows dvd will not boot at all?

I have reset over and over with no luck. I have tried both 32 and 64 bit windows dvds and usb drives.
So far tried win7, win10, win xp, and win vista. None will go to startup screen to install. All freeze on grey windows logo. Nothing else happens.

I have repair permissions as well and yes i do have drive split to install windows. Help??

Older Macs like that won't boot windows at all from USB, thats a limitation of the bios emulation. Just use the DVD, install normally like you would any regular PC. You don't need to have more than one partition. If you only want windows, pop the disc in and boot from in by holding the "C" key at the chime. Then delete all the partitions and make a new one for windows. You don't need to use refind, that computer doesn't have an EFI version that windows can understand anyways. Windows doesn't know or care that its running on a Mac. The reason you're having this problem is that you're trying to use refind instead of actually booting the disc. You can also boot from holding option, but pressing C is faster.

Windows DVD wont boot period! With or without refind, refit. Doesnt matter. Mac freezes after selecting windows dvd from boot menu. It will show a gray windows logo and go no further. I left for 8 hrs and nothing. KB freezes disc still spinning but nothing. I can use option or C and still the same result. No windows disc get passed the boot menu. I can boot osx snow disc fine. The problem is not refind. Tried almost everything I can think of. 32/64 windows retail disc, moddifed efi boot win disc, nothing. Its like once it detects windows dvd instant freeze. BTW i only have KB and mouse plugged in.

The only reason a grey windows logo would be shown is because refind does that. If you see a grey windows logo at all, youre using refind.
Pressing C, should bypass refind completely. Do you still see a grey windows logo after doing that? Or does it hang up in some other place?
The only one that will work is the "retail" disc. As in an EFI modded one won't work either as I said the old EFI implementation on the old Macs isn't supported under windows.

Yes I have tried retail discs also and it just sits at the boot selection screen after i select the windows dvd. It will freeze immediately after I select the dvd. I can hear the disc reading as i select the dvd but after about 15-20 mins it just sounds like its at idle spinning.

BTW I am doing all this without refind or refit. Stock boot menu

What does it say when you select it? It should be a picture of a DVD and it should be labeled "Windows" exactly like that. Anything else isn't right. Afterwards it should go to a black screen like you'd see on a windows pc. Thats only seconds after selecting it. If you're sitting there for 20 min something is definitely not right. I'm just trying to figure out what the problem is. I'd say your drive might be bad but probably not if it can boot the OS X DVD. Is it possible the installation media is bad?

[doublepost=1517551561][/doublepost]DVD are all retail and work no problem on Windows PC. I even installed the same windows 7 DVD on a spare laptop just to make sure. On the stock boot menu I see Mac disc, bootcamp partition and windows disc. As soon as I hit enter on the windows disc it spins up and I can hear it spinup fine but the screen will freeze on a all white screen. No loading of disc, no blinking cursor, nothing. Keyboard is frozen for over an hour. Even reinstalled osx from scratch and reran setup but nothing. Will not boot from Windows disc.
[doublepost=1517551845][/doublepost]Like I said the disc reads fine in osx. Pops up instantly when inserted in osx but will not run from boot. Partition is correct, format is correct. Idk what else to try. Did the boot camp install for setup but when it restarts to continue it instantly freezes. Tried cold DVD boot same result.
