Late 2008 13" unibody MacBook wont sleep when closing lid

I have a late 2008 Macbook that will not sleep when closing the lid. It will not shut off the screen nor put the laptop to sleep. Using the sleep function manually works just fine. I assume there is some type of switch that detects when the lid is closed but cant find any info on it. I found some small mention that it might be in the hard drive cable but nothing concrete.

My MBP had this issue caused by the battery status indicator on the side. That little piece, aside from the obvious, also controls sleep on lid close.

is that part of the hard drive cable or separate?

No it's its own cable. It connects to the logic board immediately to the right of where the battery connects.

Ill try and find some info on this cable. Not sure if its the same for mine as it is on the MBP.
