Late 2008 Aluminum MB max. RAM amount

Hi guys, I currently have 4GB on the above mentioned system but was thinking of expanding to 8GB. Apple's official maximum amount for this system is 4GB but Mactrack says I expand up to 8GB.

Any input would be appreciated!

EDIT: as for brands I'd go for Crucial since it's the brand I currently have and actually the manufacturer is the same of the original which shipped with the computer.

The aluminum late-2008 Macbook has always been able to use 8GB. No firmware update is needed. While the plastic late-2008 can use 8GB as well after updating the firmware, some users have reported stability issues when doing so.
