With the emphasis on the "early" part of the description of the current 2008 mac pro, I can't help but think that a "late" 2008 mac pro may be coming. The lack of new cinema displays also suggests that the refreshed models would have new enclosures... possibly to match the late 2008 mac pros? What does the mac rumors community think?

The name Mac Pro (early 2008), aka Mac Pro 3,1, means nothing as to future timing of new machines. It only distinguishes it from the earlier Mac Pro and Mac Pro (8X) aka Mac Pro 1,1 and Mac Pro 2,1.

The convention is similar to G5's that went from G5 to G5 ( june 2004 ) to G5 ( late 2004 ) to G5 ( early 2005 ) to G5 ( late 2005 ).

It is unlikely that Mac Pro will see a refresh until early or mid 2009 when intel makes Nehalem based processors available.

If anything it would most likely just be a bump to faster harpertowns, 3.4 - 4.0GHz for more money and maybe new hard drive options or perhaps a new add in card. I doubt Apple will be redesigning the case or chassis, certainly not before Nehalem, and probably not even then.

I agree.

Maybe also finally a Blu-Ray drive.
But waiting for the next iteration, when the new one has JUST been released doesn´t make sense to me. People who do that will never be happy with what they have. ;)
I´m glad I waited but I started waiting when the last Mac Pro was almost a year old.

Not unless intel develops a new stepping for Harpertown, they are up against the wall on speed at 3.2 GHz. There are non Xeon harpertowns that have faster clocks but slower buses that are less stable and unsuitable for a Mac Pro.

Intel is releasing the Nehalems in Q1 2009.

I think that is when we should expect the "early-2009" Mac Pros;)

Good Golly, I would love to receive my 2008 first. It is like unwrapping presents at Christmas and already making a list for next year. HeHe.

Anyway, I would like to see the new Mac Pro come with more speed, better hard drives, graphic cards (that are upgradeable to what is available in the windows side) and better media drives like blue ray all standard!!! Of course, there really needs to be an upgrade to the displays.

Here is what I would like:

1. Hot swappable internal hard drives

2. 10G Ethernet (Standard or optional)

3. Faster CPUs, Ram etc

4. USB 3.0 (~late 2008)

5. Firewire 3200 (~late 2008 - early 2009)

6. A SMALL lcd screen (2cm) either in the front or back displaying uptime, and errors with hardware (making it much easier to understand possible problems, and correct them as soon as possible)

7. Tooless Optical drive accessibility

8. ESATA ports

9. Anti-vibrational rubber pads at the base of the tower, on the optical drive bays, and on the hard drive bays. This will improve the reliability of the machine, and will make it much quieter.

10. Some sort of hard drive cooling. A heatpipe system would be great! The Mac Pros currently have problems with hard drives overheating (slightly). If there were copper heatpipes on the hard drive rails (something simple), that would improve the reliability and longevity of the system even more.

What do you guys think?

Also, interior case lighting will absolutely make this case the best.

When you take of the side panel, an interior light goes on, and provides light for the ram compartment and pci-e compartment.

That would be so sick.

I wasn't to say anything.

But Apple is hiding the specs in a secret place, wanna look inside the hiding place?

all would be excellent! I may be in the market around June 09 during my placement year. Love the small display idea that'd be cool.

1. Blu-ray
2. Nehalem or faster Penryn processors
3. 4GB of RAM standard
4. 500GB Hard Drive standard
5. Possibly new enclosure
6. ATI Radeon 3850 standard, 9800 GTX as an option, FX 5600 stays

My guess. :)

I just got another really good idea.

What about an integrated Airport Extreme base station into the back of the Mac Pro.

Is the Mac Pro cycle that short? I would figure that they aren't touching these till next year.
