Late 2008 Macbook Pro 15" el capitan vs modded catalina

Just grabbed a late 2008 15" with 4 gbs of ram, upgraded to a 500 gb SSD and quite impressed by the performance for such an old machine. Bought this laptop to use with my Kodak PS50 scanner as I only have the mac software for it.

Would I see a performance increase or decrease by installing Catalina?
