So I've got this beater of a laptop, with a nonfunctioning optical drive and a bootcamp assistant that won't let me use a USB drive to install. But I've got an external (usb) DVD drive that's apparently compatible, which didn't help much. I burned my .iso, that I've used on a lot of computer, everything was going fine until it spat out a random error which read something like "Your disk could not be partitioned. An error occurred while partitioning the disk". I was thinking of partitioning the drive myself then pointing the bootcamp assistant to the new partition but that doesn't appear to be possible.

I'd rather not watch paint dry deal with VM software considering it's a stock, unabgraded, 10-year-old laptop.

How do I get it past the partitioning error and more importantly, how do I get it to install Windows from a USB stick?
