Late 2008 white macbook screen hangs at logo

Im thinking of buying a used 2008 macbook cheap
because the macbook screen hangs at the apple logo when it is turned on?
Anyway this can be repaired?

It is hard to say. It could be as simple as a new hard drive or drive cable, or it could be a completely defective logic board.

Can you plug a bootable USB key in and boot from that?
