I apologize if this isn't the correct forum to be posting this in.

Last night, I shut down my MBP and when I went to start it up this morning, I got the gray screen with the Apple logo, a spinning loading wheel, and a loading bar underneath that. The loading bar progresses to about a third of the way, then empties, then loads again about a third of the way, then just shuts down.

After doing some research, I tried booting up with my Snow Leopard DVD to perform an archive and install, however, I get the statement "this disc can't be changed", thus not allowing me to perform the archive and install.

I then open up Disc Utility, and try to perform a repair of my HD, and I get the statement along the lines of "can't repair. Back up your files, etc."

I've tried booting in safe mode and am unable to do so. I've tried to reset the PRAM several times, but that hasn't worked either.

I am about to wipe my HD clean and install everything all over again as a last resort, unless I can get some advice on how to get this started up without using that option.

Any help would be much appreciated!
