Hi (if this isn't in the right section please let me know or move to the right section to post in)
My family has a Late 2009 mac mini(specs attached) and a 2008 aluminium macbook both running leopard and a 2009 macbook pro (13"). I want to upgrade all the computers in my household to Lion so we can use the icloud features. However I am not sure that the macmini is up to it, although it would only be about 3 years old and I am quite sure the 2008 macbook isn't. The macmini is a home media centre so it has to be...nimble and I was thinking of upgrading next year anyway because we are putting in surround sound and a new tv etc and was thinking of getting the server mini... So my question is do I upgrade to lion now like i am doing with the 13" MBP or should I just buy a new mac mini and a new macbook or macbook pro?

As long as they're all running on an Intel Core 2 Duo or better, and contain at least 2GB of RAM, you're fine.
