I've got a Late 2011 MBP 15", 2.2 GHz, 6750M 512MB, and the stock 1440x900 glossy display. I've been doing some research into swapping the display panel with the high-resolution, glossy panel. The part that I need is the Samsung LTN154MT07, 9CB6. I've been able to find the part online for a reasonable price, and everything I've been reading is that the LVDS cable is the same, so a direct hardware swap is possible.

However, I've heard that the entry-level GPU on the Late 2011 MBP, the 6750M with 512MB VRAM can't drive the high-resolution display. This doesn't seem to make much sense, as it doesn't take much to drive 1680x1050 resolution and the 6750M has more than enough power to drive the HR display (in theory).

Has anyone else on MR attempted a display swap? I've been searching Google and MR forums for a while now and have come up short.

Of course this GPU is able to drive that display. However, I am not sure that a swap will work. It is possible that the higher-res model uses other firmware. You could be a guinea pig if you want to go through with it ^^

My suggestion: sell your Mbp and get a refurb from apple store. Much less stress, probably cheaper and you also get warranty.

I'm not looking to buy a new machine. I'm asking if anyone has done it or has any experience with it.
