Looking to upgrade my late 2011 MacBook Pro 13" from 4gb RAM to either 8gb or 16gb but not sure which. Is the extra £50 approx worth it to take it 16gb or will 8gb be a big step upwards? I seem to be getting the spinning ball a lot recently. iPhoto seems slower and, for the first time I did some work on a short video clip (8 mins) and it struggled too.

Any help appreciated

Thank you

Insufficient RAM may or may not be the cause of your beachball. If you're having performance issues, this may help:
This should help: How much RAM do I need in my Mac?

I have the same MBP. A week or two after I purchased it, (new Jan. 2012) I upgraded the RAM to 8GB. I still had beach balls happening, albeit not all the time. With the install of Mavericks, it got worse with more app bouncing and intermittent lagging. Recently, I replaced the HDD with a SSD, and it has made a tremendous difference. No more lagging or beach balls etc.

I looked at SSD but at £300+ for 512gb I may wait and just get a new MBP next year
