So I popped in a new SSD in my MBP, a Transcend 480GB SSD (it had great reviews), but I'm getting terribly low write speeds - I'm using the Blackmagic Speed Test app to do the benchmarking. I'm getting around 37mb/s write speed on average which doesn't seem right, especially given that I am getting around 500 mb/s for read speed. Additionally, I know I have a SATA III connection given that the link and negotiated link speed for the drive is 6 gbs.

Any ideas why I would have these issues?

How full is the disk. SSD can get slow as the free space gets low. I try to maintain 10-20% free.

And CostalOR is right about the SATA cable. They degrade/fail as they age or get touched.

Fresh SSD and clean install of El Capitan. I guess I'll be ordering a new cable then! Thanks to you both.

Did another disk speed check today after my hard drive was done being encrypted...200-400 mb/s now! I guess I should have known...
