So I have a late 2011 MBP, my wife works from home, but her work machine has USB-C... she has a dock that she plugs hers into to allow use of two 24 inch monitors... was wondering if there are adapters that could be used off the thunderbolt1/minidisplay port on such a late model MBP.. from what I see it may not provide power, which wouldn't really be an issue... I can simply use the current apple supply.. just trying to find a way to plug directly into the MBP to be able to use the monitors via the dock.. any and all help is appreciated.. thanks!!!

Apple’s Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter will work in this situation. It says it’s bidirectional so will work going 2 to 3 or 3 to 2 devices.

Will this work directly to a USB-C (non-TB) dock?
As in MBP > TB2 cable > bidirectional adapter > USB-C dock.

I think it would not work without something in between, like a TB3 dock with a USB-C port on it.
As in MBP > TB2 cable > bidirectional adapter > TB3 dock > USB-C dock.

OP, If I had a USB-C dock, I would test it for you. Maybe someone else has tried the setup and can get you an answer.

Does your wife's laptop have TB3? If so, you could just get a TB3 dock, and use that instead of the USB-C, assuming that going right to USB-C from the bidirectional adapter wouldn't work.

You can connect a Thunderbolt dock using the Apple Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter, but you cannot connect a USB-C dock with that adapter.
