Hi, just after a bit of help with my late 2012 27", it's the model in my signature. Recently it will randomly freeze for 30 seconds to a minute and not respond. When I look at istat menus it shows that all disk activity stops.

It seems to be random as to when it does it, sometimes not long after boot, sometimes after being used for an hour or two. Nothing else is wrong with it except it running a bit hotter than it used to and some image retention from time to time.

Any advice on what I can do?

Thanks.

I also have a late 2012 27” iMac configured like yours. It usually won’t start up, but it does occasionally. I can hear my external back up drive running, so I know there is USB power. It has been in the shop for almost 2 months. They have replaced the power supply and the logic board twice. Nothing helps. The codes returned say that it is not recognizing its own display. I am trying to just wait until the next refresh, since the Apple techs can’t figure it out. I hate only having my iPad.

I also have that model Late 2012 iMac. The original 3TB HD was under a recall for a while - due to failing drives. The Repair Authorization has long since expired. When that was still current a few years ago, mine started freezing up as you described. I opted to replace that internal HD with an SSD 1TB from a third party vendor. I don't know if OWC will ship to the UK, but it's worth looking them up. You could also buy an external drive and set it up as a boot drive. For what it's worth, I'd suggest getting that drive replaced or going with and external boot volume.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I remember the recall, I didn't do it after a bad experience with a recall on my old 2009 iMac. Maybe should have just done it. Better make a couple of extra backup (already have 2).
