Play a mono source... The speakers are behind the insignia plate on the left and right sides of the front of the iMac

No, mine are fine...It's rare I actually use them so worth people checking...As far as I know it's not a widespread issue.

Thanks... Just not sure if its worth having fixed... As you say I hardly use them... Took me a month to just listen to them for the first time and discover this.

I can hear a very slight difference. The left speaker sounds more full than the right but when I play as stereo it sounds perfect so not worried. Apple probably got cheap :p

Yeah, mine is obvious... Thanks

Might I suggest considering this before risking them opening it up. The iMac speakers are not realistically that great anyway and if set to stereo it sounds good without any hints of defect then I wouldn't worry. If you want good sound you have to use external speakers defect or not so it won't affect the resale value if it sounds right at stereo because no one ever listens to stuff in mono right? :p Not worth the risk imo

I'll probably only use the built in speakers for Skype

The issue is obvious on my system even with stereo audio (I'm a professional Recording Engineer)... Just wanted to see if it was a common issue before deciding on what to do.

This is mainly a Dev. System

Thanks.

I'm the same....wouldn't even have checked if you hadn't mentioned it. As far as built in speakers go, the iMac's are not totally awful...no good when you're used to Genelc and Onkyo quality, but pretty acceptable for a lot of folks.
