I just migrated to a new imac and I had been using smc on my 2008 imac and it was extremely helpful. However, on the new imac I only get a fan speed reading on the ODD. Does the new imac only have one fan in it or is it that smc doesn't work with the new imac?

2012 iMac has a single fan, and I wouldnt bother using smcfancontrol to adjust the fans settings. the computer is good at setting the speeds for the fan necessary to cool the internals.

awesome - thanks for the info. do you happen to know if it has multiple temp sensors on the gpu, cpu and hdd?

I tried it a month ago, and then it didn't have support for the new iMac CPU (at least my i7 3.4ghz) as it reported CPU temp "O celsius". I prefer iStat Menus. It might be a bit over the top, but it's a very nice program. That one doesn't either support the new iMac CPUs. You only get CPU proximity. Maybe an update soon?
