Gentlemen,
Today I took delivery of a base config late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Retine (2.4/8/256). I'm quite happy with it as it significantly reduces the amount of space my mid 2010 classic MacBook Pro and 27" Apple Cinema Display was taking in my living room.
Having it all set up, I started to watch an episode of a series. I have a home built fileserver that I put all my movies, music, images and documents on and every movie or episode I typically stream over wifi and watch it often on my MacBook.
Every episode or movie that I watch has very frequent slight hiccups where the image freezes and then continues after a few seconds. Watching the same episode on my classic MacBook Pro plays flawless. They are connected to the same wifi network and are placed within one meter of each other, so both having exact signal reception and quality.
I found a huge thread on the Apple Discussion forums describing exactly the same problem for the mid 2013 MacBook Airs for which a software update was released, but it didn't seem to fix the problem completely. Most people have resorted there to plugging in a wifi usb dongle to get rid of the interruptions.
Those that have a late 2013 MacBook Pro retina (either 13" or 15"), would it be possible to do a test to stream a few episodes over a network share/drive and see whether you experience the same thing?
Although it doesn't bother me when I'm browsing the web, I often watch a few episodes in bed and if this problem continues, I'll see whether I can have it returned. I should not be experiencing hiccups on an almost 2 to 3 minute basis.
Any feedback is more than appreciated!
