Hi,

I don't get a light on my magsafe, however the battery icon shows the charging lightning bolt. CTRL-clicking the icon says it is not charging as does system profiler (see attached file).

I suspect it is the SMC chip. Is there anyway to confirm this before I take it to a shop, and is there anyway to guarantee I dont get a ****** chip replacement from another faulty logic board containing potentially incorrect firmware (as some technician videos suggest)?

After 6 years maybe it is time for me to get a new MBP...

It's probably not the smc. It's likely the isl6259 or one of the other components in the family simple charging circuit. You can take the bottom off and have a look for the tell-tale green/white fuzz, but it'll probably be on the other side. An experienced tech will sort it out in no time.
