Late 2013 Pro but dead battery out of the box?

Friend bought a new Late 2013 Pro but out of the box the battery was dead. He had to plug in the power cord for the computer to turn on.

Since its possible that the computer was in the warehouse for many months with the dead battery, will this effect battery life going forward?

According to the manual it says to keep the battery at around 50% for long term storage.

Anyone see any problems with this?

Cheers.

This was the case with a Mac I bought many years ago. It was a previous generation bnib. It was okay after I charged it.

If not, it's under warrant, if they bought it from a retailer.

Tell him to return the computer to Apple to get it replaced if under 14 days or repaired if above. If he did not buy from Apple Online Store or Any Apple store, he can show his purchase ticket and if it's under one year, apple will fix/replace the battery!

Charge Remaining 8852mAh
Cycle count 3
Full Charge Capacity 8852mAh

Its on OSX 10.9.2. So possibly anytime from end of February 2014.
