Hello!

Long time forum reader, first time poster.

My 15" MBP has been performing beautifully for 7 years now, with an untimely screen fail just recently. I've gone through all of the troubleshooting and everything. The screen has fuzzy green dots all over it through the log-in screen. After I log in successfully, it goes black. I can fortunately get away with using it connected to my tv via HDMI. And sometimes after I do that, I can remove the HDMI and the screen will work for a little bit of time. It's hit and miss.

I've been quoted anywhere between $700 - $900 to replace the screen and top casing, which seems ultra expensive (maybe because it's an older casing Apple doesn't make anymore) ... Does this sound accurate?

I've been waiting for Apple to release that damn 14" laptop for months now, which I guess looks to be pushed back to at least late this year. So my question is: should I just bite the bullet and get the 13" at $1799 at that point? Then maybe resell the 13" when the 14" comes out?

Or get my old 15" repaired and try to flip it for $500 later?

I just don't know how much previous generation laptops sell for since I haven't been in this predicament before. It's incredible I've gotten 7 years out of this thing, to be honest.

Green dots is indicative of a dodgy lvds connection, the screen itself is likely fine. Take the bottom cover off and reseat your lvds connector, and check the solder for corrosion while you're at it.

That would be AMAZING if that's the fix. I'll give it a shot!! Thank you for the tip :)
