I wanted to make a quick post about my MPB's Wifi disconnection and low speeds. So i downloaded wifi explorer and have been monitoring my wifi and neighboring wifis. So in the past, i had horrible wifi problems since i got the machine. First it was the wake problem which was fixed when upgraded in mavericks. Then on came the nonstop and still persistent intermittent lag, disconnecting and so forth. At first i believe everyone and fixed and altered this and that, replaced this and that and backed up my mac to an older backup. I have tried damn near everything and i am at the two few possibilities left that i can think of. So currently i am running on channel 9 at 20mhz with an ARRIS time warner modem/wifi router. This came with time warner. The mode is 802.11 b/g/n at WPA2, AES encryption, WPS enabled, WMM enabled.
My signal is 59%, noise is 7%, a signal to noise ratio of 25dB (dB jumps between 21-28 usually), I tested these with removing my mouse and external harddrive to see if that had any impact as well. My mouse is a zowie gaming mouse and it had no reduction or improvements if i had it in or out but when i unplugged my usb 3.0 external harddrive, i only saw an increase by 2-4 dB and a signal that either stayed the same or increased by 3%. Now this does not happen every time i disconnect the device but it happens a majority of the time. This means that what i am experiencing although small, may be anecdotal. This is a seagate external HDD 1 tb and backs up my mac backups as well. So at this point, i tested just moving my laptop closer to the router slowly and closing my bedroom door and walking into the hallway where i stare straight ahead and see my roommates room when the router is laying underneath is computer that is a desktop with two monitors tons of microphones and random **** that he has. I did se esignificant improvements in signal and SND dB's. Testing my speeds out in the hallway gave me better and more consistent downloads and uploads. In my room it hit the same number to an extent but VARIED ALOT and went up and down like crazy where i would get results that were either really low for downstream or not. So at this point in time, should i focus on moving the router in the hallway and see if that does anything? IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT MY COMPUTER CONNECTS AT 802.11 N and its the only thing it ever connect as i guess. Should i test the router being in the hallwa? If not, then replace router? If i replace router or get a router instead of using the modem/wifi setup that was given to us, what should i get? Should i focus on N routers or AC routers? Should i focus on 5ghz or 2.4ghz? any difference? If all else fails, i thought about replacing the wifi and bluetooth card. On ifixit i found this but i am not sure if this is legit and if this would even work or not. So i was curious if anyone else has experienced any of this? No help from apple and i am over my 1 year warranty (was too poor to afford the extra warranty and its too late now because poor student :/ )

also at 10.9.5, should i go back to 10.9? wont let me via app store or purchase history so i would have to find a brand new or used copy i suppose. Wonder if staying only on 10.9 made a difference or not as well. THANKS!!
