Finally, a successor to the late 2013 MBP I've been clinging onto. Late 2013 was full speced with 16gb/1TB. All the other MBP that have come out I was not crazed about except for te most recent 15". I've been using a XPS 2-in-1 but I tend to grab my trusty old MBP for the majority of the time.

I'm not crazed about the touchbar, but I think the new 16" MBP is worth the upgrade. Don't know how much life the SSD can be - smart status does report it as - healthy-. In reality, even though the MBP is just lagging a bit on processor or memory, for a 6 year old notebook, it runs pretty decent.

Thanks for sharing - I was in a similar situation but didn’t wait it out and went with an iMac + base 13” Macbook Pro setup instead. The sacrifice in portability is justified by the performance increase and cost savings of going with a desktop + eGPU imo (the 13” is more of a convenience than a necessity).

The Late 2013 has been upgraded to 2TB and is still reliably working to this day :)

Grrrr. I guess the wait continues.
Specs/pricepoint on the 16" I liked.
Went to look at it in person.

Too big for a nomad. I sorta knew it would have been, as my other rig is a XPS 2-1.

What 2TB drive did you go with. From what I understand, the OWC drives are not reliable...

Samsung 970 Evo. Aside from hibernate it functions well. I have the upgrade video linked in my signature if you’re interested.

IF the 16" is "too big" for you, and you can "wait a little longer", you can expect to see a 13" (or slightly larger display) version of the new design (with the new keyboard) probably by March 2020.

I'm thinking that if Apple is satisfied that the keyboard problems of the "butterfly design" have disappeared with the re-designed "scissors" keyboard of the 16", that they'll try to get the 2020 13" version into the pipeline without delay.
