Hi,

i have a top spec’d late 2013 15’ macbook pro retina. I am thinking about selling it and buying a replacement for it but not sure what would be similar power and speed wise. I find the top spec’d 2019 macbook pro retina quite too expensive now. I think i’d be happy enough with something in the same level as my laptop. I’m still happy with it and the only reason why i’m thinking about replacing it is it’s age and fear of it not being supported for much longer. As well as the hardware is getting older so i’m getting paranoid about something breaking.

If your laptop is running well, and you find the 2019 MBP too pricey, hang on to your 2013 model, and save up, so that when it is truly time for you to replace the 2013, you'll be that much more ahead of the game and may find the current-gen more affordable.

I would not recommend any MBP that uses the butterfly keyboard, so I'd wait for a time when its feasible to buy the 16" model

I'd have to agree with the above poster. If it works now why replace it. Unless you're in a work field where it would be catastopic if your laptop failed then just use it. I don't mean losing files because on any computer you should maintain a backup. If it becomes unsupported or stops working then replace it. Maybe it will keep going till the 2021 MacBook so then you will have a better replacement.

Thanks for the replies. I do have an imac pro in my main studio and want to use the laptop as a portable recording unit. I guess i’ll stick with it since it still work as you guys suggest. I’m just annoyed it’s starting to show it’s age by not supporting some new features (sidecar etc.). And right now i could still get a little “decent” money for it while it still works. That’s why i was thinking about buying something newer that’s about as powerful. I know technology (processors, ram...) get better each year. So i was wondering in todays line up which spec’d mac would be as good as mine? Sorry if it’s a dumb question.

It’s not a dumb question, it’s just that the last 4 years of MBPs have been lackluster to say the least. So while yes, clock speeds improved year over year, the machines didn’t really get noticeably faster until last year. You wouldn’t really gain anything with a top spec 2017, and if you’re going any newer, you’re better off with a 2019. I say save your pennies, buy something when you really need it. You’re not going to get much for your 2013 at this point anyway.

nows just not a great time to buy, the13 inch still hasn’t been updated, and the 16 inch is the only all new option. That’s why it’s hard to give you a simple answer.

I'd keep it if I had yours. Wait a few years until it conks out then buy a refurbished 16" model.

Again, thank You all for the msg’s. I think you are right and i will stick with it for a while longer.
