Every few days, I have to do a 1.5 hour long video call via Skype. I use my late 2015 27" iMac.

For about 40% of these calls, my internet will crap out 20-40 minutes into the call. I have to switch to tethering using my cell phone service to finish the call, which sucks. By "internet crapping out," I mean that my modem and router lose internet access, none of my devices can get internet over wifi, and I have to reboot everything to restore service.

This was driving me nuts so I assumed it was a problem with my internet service (cable internet via Comcast) and switched services to OTA via T-Mobile. So now I have a different modem, a different router, and internet service based on completely different technology, AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL HAPPENING.

This has been so annoying that, for the last couple weeks, I started using my MacBook for these video calls, and so far it has worked flawlessly.

I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that, as bizarre and unlikely as it sounds, there's something about the iMac's wifi hardware or networking stack that is occasionally able to screw up modems or routers. I have no idea how that's even possible but you know what Sherlock Holmes says.

Has anybody else ever experienced anything like this? Thoughts?

My version of Skype is 8.75.0.140 which it says is the latest version, and my version of MacOS is Big Sur, 11.6, with no updates pending.

As explained, Skype installs, runs, and works. The same software works on my laptop. Something about the iMac seems to be screwing up my modem and router. No idea how.
