I am current in the market for a new MacBook Pro. I currently have a 2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch and it’s time to get a new computer ASAP! I have been leaning towards the newer mid 2017 MBP 13 inch, which would cost $1699. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1342546-REG/apple_mpxv2ll_a_13_3_macbook_pro_with.html — However, I saw there is also a Late 2016 MBP 15 inch for $1799. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1293726-REG/apple_mlh32ll_a_15_4_macbook_pro_with.html

I know there is a difference with the size of the screen, processors and keyboard. Upgrading from an older 2011 MBP, should I take the leap for additional $100 for an older model? I just need some guidance.

Heavy Photography, light web design, typical everyday use. Traveling with my Mac will be minimum. So I’m not worried too much about the size or weight. Upgrading from such an older model, I’ll notice a huge leap in performance regardless of any model.

Well, do you want a 15” or a 13”? There is no principal difference between 2016 and 2017 versions. The 15” is going to be a much faster computer.

What do you use the machine for??? Do you need a quad core cpu? Areyou incredibly mobile and will take a hit on performance for portability?? You don’t even let us know if you are using a 13 or 15 inch machine currently.

You have given us no information with which to help you decide, what we would choose means nothing to you, only your use case can inform you which model to get.

Oh yes it will be a huge upgrade whatever you get, the only thing to look out for on the 2016 is the reported higher keyboard failure rates. This could cause you issues, the 2017 is anecdotally better in this regard.

The 15 inch will of course be a much more powerful computer and the quad core and 16gb of ram will blitz photoshop, to be honest I think you’ll be just fine with either of them though.

This is really a decision to be made between a 13" form factor and 15".

If you want to avoid the [somewhat high] chances of keyboard failure, you -might- consider a 2015 design MBPro 15". A full complement of legacy ports as well.

These are still available NEW from Apple, or as Apple-refurbished.

Just an option to consider...
