I was curious who the drive manufacturer is for the new MPs - in my case it's a Pioneer DVR-112D. The interesting thing is that in my old MP (2.66 Quad) it was a Pioneer DVR-111D.
My old 111's were extremely picky when it came to DVD +D DL brands and burning speeds. I probably tried 5 different brands of DL discs and the only brand that I could even get close to the 8X disc speed using Toast 8 was Verbatim but alas they one of the most expensive discs.
Needless to say after all the trials I have a pile of DL discs I dread using b/c I know they'll take 3x longer than the Verbatims. So late last night I popped in a "Great Quality" brand that I'd gotten during some sale at Frys into the 112 and lo and behold it burned at the same speeds as my verbatims usu. 5x-6x.
While I'd ordered my old MP with 1 stock superdrive, I grabbed a second 111D. When I got my new MP, I transferred the second 111D to my new machine but after last night's find, I think I'll be getting a new 112D!
Anyone notice the same results I'm seeing?
