A near-by town has a beautiful new library with comfy chairs, lots of tables, and wicked fast internet. I've worked there many times on my iPad and even my 2012 Dell laptop running Windows 7. Download speeds at the library are ~45 MBs.

I've never had a problem with the WiFi, until now. My new Macbook hooked up with the WiFi but there was no internet. Safari couldn't load a page and Dropbox couldn't sync. I went there to work and my files were in Dropbox as I work on my 27" iMac at home.

After futzing around with it for 10 minutes, I called AppleCare, got bounced around a couple of times before getting to the right department.

The tech had me fiddle with the Network setting, changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, deleting the library's WiFi from the list of connections I've used before, even moving a folder from the Preferences directory to the desktop. Nothing worked.

My iPhone is hooked up and when I look around the library I see other people working on laptops, no doubt on the internet.

The passed me off to his supervisor who basically said, Yeah, that sometimes happens with Macs at random times. It happens at some schools...

It's difficult for me to understand how simples devices like iPhones and iPads, and Windows machines, can use the internet there just fine but not my $2,000 Mac.

Next time I'll sync up with Dropbox before going to the library.

On the bright side, this thing has crazy good battery life. I'm at 40% and it tells me I still have 6 hours of battery life. Granted, I'm at 4 brightness.

And no keyboard or trackpad lockups since the update.
