Hello,

Running Mojave on an iMac.

Trying to use Time machine. Have a new 500 GB SSD dedicated for it.
Seems to "work," but it also seems to have many quirks that I don't understand.
Will Post re these later.

Question: Vers. of Time Machine I have is 1.3

There are several mentions on web sites that the latest for Mojave is 1.5 True ?

How can i download this latest version, please ?
Might as well use the latest.
I cannot find any download site for it.

Thanks,
Bob

Hmmm. I use Time Machine, but I don't know how to see what "version" it is. As far as I know, TM is built into/included with macOS and presumably updated along with macOS, and not downloaded separately.

Discovered that the 'tmutil' command has a 'version' verb (oddly, it's not documented in the man page). I get version 4.0.0 on my Mojave machine (and the same version with a slightly earlier build date on my High Sierra machine).

brian@imac:~(0)$ tmutil version
tmutil version 4.0.0 (built Feb 22 2019)

I get the same -- tmutil version 4.0.0 (built Feb 22 2019) -- via the terminal BUT...
GetInfo in the Finder says it's Version 1.3, Copyright 2007-2014 with a created and last modified date February 22, 2019 at 10:54 PM.

So its either V1.3 or V4.0 or both o_O

Ah -- I hadn't thought of doing a Get Info on Time Machine.app. I see 1.3 there also.

I think the OP may have gotten the idea that there was a 1.5 version from this web page: https://eclecticlight.co/2019/03/02/mojaves-time-machine-1-5-working-well-but-small-quirks/

...where he says: "macOS Mojave changed Time Machine significantly, so much so that I have referred to it as version 1.5, midway in its journey to supporting backup to APFS volumes, which will effectively be Time Machine 2."

That's not an official version -- he's just using that terminology in the article to differentiate Mojave's version from earlier macOS versions of Time Machine.

In the Applications Folder -- select and click on the Time Machine application and press the SpaceBar.
This will show the version #, this works for any other application also.

Any reason you are using an SSD, and a small one at that? Normally better to get a larger HD so you can have a longer backup history. SSD speed isn't really needed except during initial backup, and you can just run that overnight. Incremental backups are relative fast on a HD. Be sure to have other non-TM backups as well as TM can let you down when you most need it.
