Latitude: Can it run in background?

Safari runs in the background... so does that mean Latitude does too?

It most likely will run in the background with Safari but it will not update in the background. I just read an article about this today on AppleInsider.

Now see, this feature is wicked sick, just that is it true that it only knows your location from the last time you used Google Maps on your iPhone???
