The method Mac OS uses to determine what app to launch when I double-click a file has always puzzled me. But what really sends my head for a spin is when LaunchServices refuses to obey what I tell it.
Here's what's gotten me most recently: I have Snow Leopard 10.6, and QuickTime Pro 7. I really detest QuickTime X's, well, stupidness, so I decided that I wanted to make all my movies open in QuickTime 7 automatically. Simple enough: I should be able to just get info on a .mov file, set it to open with QT 7, and hit Change All. When I do so, however, the video just changes back to QuickTime Player Launcher, and the icon switches back to the QT X icon! I have a video to demonstrate this.
What is happening here, and how can it be solved?
Thanks!
