LCD Backlighting Dimming on it's own?

Last night I was working on my new mbp via battery. I noticed that the lcd brightness seemed to dim down and then brighten ever couple of minutes. Is this a normal battery saving effect or is something wrong with the display?

It's a feature in your Display preferences. It has an ambient light sensor and adjusts the brightness automatically. You can turn it on or off in your System Preferences under Display I believe.
