I have a 17" LCD iMac. Twice this week, when awakening the computer from sleep, there is a VERY brief flash of light (not bright mostly it appears that its the desktop) then the screen goes completely black. It dones not respond to any key strokes nor to ejecting the CD key. The fan is running though. I put my hand on top of the dome and could feel the air on my fingers. I have had this computer almost a year and never experienced this before but twice now in the last week it has occured. Any ideas? Do I need to call Apple (I have Applecare for it). Thanks
Pete

I wonder if your backlight might be dying? That's the only explanation I could think of... I would definately call Apple!

Sounds like as good a reason as any.
Thanks for the response

FWIW:
I perused Apple's SUpport site. Apparently this is a pretty common problem on the 17 and 20" iMacs. Something to do with a bad inverter. All the people who had experienced this problem were told to take it in and they would fix the problem. I guess it was a pretty quick fix.
