Found this bit of info regarding our screen types. I found the below info from scouring Google.

Whitebook/Blackbook Panel Lottery:

9C5E/5E9C - Chi Mei N133I1 (500:1 contrast)
9C5C/5C9C - Au Optronics B133EW01 (400:1 contrast)
9C5B/5B9C - Samsung LTN133W1 (according to most, the absolute worse one)
9C5F/5F9C - LG Philips LP133WX1 (according to most, the most acceptable one)

Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook Panel Lottery:

9C8C - AU Optronics
9C89 - LG Philips LP133WX2 (400:1 contrast, 16ms response)

If anybody wants to provide more manufacturer info, post it and I will append the list as we go.

I personally have the 9C89 panel and it's "decent"..

The 9C8C is the AU Optronics.

Here is a link to the LG specs:

http://www.lgphilips-lcd.com/homeContain/jsp/eng/prd/prd300_j_e.jsp

Interestingly the Chimei seems to have slightly better viewing angles with 65 degrees vertical opposed to the AU's 55 degrees and LG's 50 degrees.

The Chimei also has a better 500:1 contrast compared with the AU and LG 400:1.

The Chimei and AU have a 16ms respose while the LG has a 25.

On paper the LG is the worst of the bunch with less viewing angle, equal worst contrast and slowest response. The Chimei seems the best.

However different manufacturers might use different measures for these things so we can't really do a paper comparison.

I lied, I was confused by the color profile I was using.. which will have someone elses panel info on line 13 and not your own.

I actually have the LG 9C89 panel. Sucks for me =( Although the blacks don't look nearly as horrible as some of the panels i've seen in some pictures. I'm using a hardware ISF calibrated profile on my LG which came from off a user that had a 9C5E and it looks WAY better than the "stock" color profile.

Yes , mine has it and love it:)

I seriously doubt you have the 9C5E panel.. 9C5E isn't led backlit.. You've probably just looked in a copied profile just like I did, which has you fooled into thinking you have the 9C5E.

There's a command line you can type out in terminal which will confirm which panel you have.

The C89 panel is LG/Philips LP133WX2-TLC1. Notebookjournal.de measured the real life contrast to be 1:145.

Notebookcheck.net measured a late 2008 Macbook with 1:190 contrast. Maybe this was the 9C8C panel. Or maybe the differences were caused by different equipement or calibration.

Hi all, how do you know which LCD model you have? I tried searching for the answer but didn't, so I have to ask. I have the last generation blackbook.

System Preferences -> Display -> Color Tab -> Click on the default "Color LCD" profile and click on Details/properties (I forget) and scroll down to detail line 13 and it will have the model of your LCD there.

I've personally seen 3 9C8C MacBooks. They're definitely better than 9C89. I could have lived with a 9C8C actually ...
