Ok, So I am about to plunge into a new LCD Monitor for my macbook. I'm buying a monitor with VGA and DVI out. I want to hook up my cable line to the monitor so I can do away with my ugly TV in this room. What would I need to be able to do this?

We only have basic cable so we don't have cable boxes, just the line in from the wall.

There are some tuners which connect directly to the monitor so that you don't need to have the computer on, but then you can't use some advanced GUI, program guide, or record on it.

Or what about just buying an LCD TV? The resolutions are typically lower, but a smallish Sony would be the same size as a big monitor, cost less per inch, would give you good NTSC and ATSC tuners, and would work fine with your Macbook.
